Grant

Grant Ernest Forbes 1941 2022

Grant Ernest Forbes, 81, of Abercrombie passed away peacefully at his cottage surrounded by his family on August 23, 2022. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Grant managed his illness with strength and grace spending as much time with loved ones as possible and welcomed a steady stream of family and friends to his much-loved cottage.
Grant accomplished a lot in his 81 years. He was a risk taker and owned and operated numerous businesses in the food and hospitality industry and was well known for his fairness and integrity. Grant was a humble man with a vibrant personality, his sense of fairness and kindness was valued by those who worked for him. He was a proud Shriner, Kinsmen and Mason.
Nothing was more important to Grant than his family and close friends. Grant was blessed with a large loud loving family who enjoyed spending time together. He was so very proud of his family and they of him. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, humour and one liners. Grant took joy in travel, his cottage, winters in Florida and watching his grand children’s activities. Active in sports from a very young age, he was proud to have been a member of the “famous” championship 58-59 East Pictou hockey team and being inducted into the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame. He loved antique cars, car shows, the A&W coffee club and holding court in his screen porch.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late John William Barrett and the late Margaret Catherine (MacDonald) Forbes. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Donna Marie (Jenkins). Grant was blessed with six children, Donna Forbes, Toronto, Stephen Forbes (Donna) of New Glasgow, Susan Corey, Fort Worth, Texas, Janice (Shawn) Pye, Gander, DJ (Krista) Forbes, New Glasgow, stepson Tyler (Kristen) MacLane, Thorburn. He has 13 cherished Grandchildren, Jeff (Ruth) Forbes, Sydney Forbes, Logan & Kasey Corey, Taylor & Evan Pye, Trystan, Kristina, Allie, Madison, and Jordan Forbes, Jake & Levi MacLane. Grant was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Forbes. Leaving also to grieve is his sister Grace Thomson of Truro, brother Kevin (Lorraine) Forbes of Edmonton, sister-in-law Linda Forbes of New Glasgow, mother-in-law Phyllis Jenkins, MacLellans Brook, as well as a large extended family.
Besides his parents, Grant was predeceased by his brother Ross Forbes, and brother-in-law John Thomson.
Dad will be dearly missed by so many. So typical of dad, his wish was to ask that in remembrance of him, please do an act of kindness.
Visitation will be held at H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow on Friday August 26 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be performed at 3pm Saturday August 24, at the First Presbyterian Church, Foord Street, Stellarton with Rev Charles MacPherson officiating.
We lost one of the good guys, he will be forever missed.
