Gordon Charles Gordie Spears 1930 2022

SPEARS, Gordon C. (Gordie)
Passed away peacefully on September 2, 2022, at the age of 91 in the Admiral Long Term Care Centre, Dartmouth, N.S.. Born in Sheet Harbour Passage on September 7, 1930 he was the son of Gordon and Bessie (Helpard) Spears.
Gordie worked for many years in the trucking industry particularly with Reg Baker and Roy Judge Construction Companies and later he was employed by Hermes Electronics in Dartmouth.
Gordie was well known in the fiddling community and over the years competed in many fiddling contests across Nova Scotia including numerous appearances in the Maritime Fiddling Contests in Dartmouth. In 2010 he was presented with the the Tara Lynne Touesnard Memorial Award by the Maritime Fiddlers Association. In July, 2000 he and Bernice fulfilled a lifetime dream of a trip to Nashville where Gordie was able to play on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium.
He is survived by his sister, Bessie (Calvin) Baker and by many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Bernice (Bezanson) Spears. 8 brothers; Harold, Herman, Howard, Dunlop, Douglas, Arnold, Basil and Laurie. 6 sisters; Nora, Helen, Edith, Hazel, Julia and a sister in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place on September 11, 2022 at 1pm in St. James United Church Cemetery, Sheet Harbour. Pastor Heather Card officiating. All are welcome to attend. Masks are encouraged. If you wish, donations may be made to St. James United Church.
