Gordon Dean Awalt
Age (88) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my dad (Gordon) at Shoreham Village with family by his side January, 4, 2022.
He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Mabel Beulah Awalt. Daughter Judy Griffiths (Gwyn) Colwood, Vancouver Island, grandson’s, Jeremy Leeman, Quesnel, BC; Micheal Leeman, Brentwood Bay, Vancouver Island.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents George and Ada; brothers, Leo (Jenny); Lapean (Gladys); sister, Idella (Granville Cleveland).
Gordon grew up in Bayswater, NS. After his marriage he moved to Blandford, NS where he spent the past 60 plus years. Gordon and Mabel took great pride in their property in Blandford and created beautiful gardens to be enjoyed by anyone who had the opportunity to see them.
In his earlier years, Gordon was sealing up North on the Theron, and enjoyed telling stories of their adventures. Dad also worked at the Whale Processing plant in New Harbour. Following that employment, he worked at Anil (Canexel) plant in East River before he retired.
Gordon enjoyed having his grandsons visit. When they were young, he made memories with them, teaching them to fish and build things. Gordon was a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church where he was a Warden, Choir member as well as a caretaker of the Blandford Cemetery. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 44.
Special thanks to SSRH doctors and nurses who ensured dad was comfortable and took measures to return him to Shoreham Village as soon as he was able. Shoreham Village staff for the respectful care given during his final days. Heather Schnare and Lisa Cochrane for being so helpful and visiting often with mom during dad’s final days. His sister-in law Gladys Awalt and nephew Trevor Awalt for visiting during his final days and bringing a smile to his face. Burial will take place in the Spring of 2022.
Donations can be made to St. Barnabas Anglican Church Blandford in memory of Gordon.
