Obituary
Cunningham, Gloria Phyllis – It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mother, Gloria Phyllis (Comley) Cunningham, on December 15, 2022 at Bayside Home in Barrington, NS at the age of 89. Our Mother was born October 31, 1933 to Elmer and Muriel (Hasslet) Flewelling in Saint John, New Brunswick. In 1951, she married and eventually became the mother of 4 children. Mom worked hard during this time. She studied cosmetology and became a licenced hairdresser and owned several of her own salons over the years. Mom also became an accomplished artist selling many of her paintings. All this was achieved while she served the Lord as a faithful and dedicated Pastor’s wife in many Independent Baptist churches in the Maritimes. The last church she served in was the New Testament Baptist Church, The Hawk. She taught Sunday School to numerous children and sang in the choir. She was particularly known for her gracious hospitality to anyone who came to her door. In 1988 she and her grandson John moved back to New Brunswick and lived with her son Clark and his family for a number of years. During this time Mom taught Sign Language in the evenings to many students. Mom and John moved back to Cape Island and in 1993 Mom remarried and moved to The Hawk. Mom had a compassionate and caring personality and developed many lasting friendships. After a stroke, she found it too difficult to manage a household and moved into the Senior’s Complex in Clark’s Harbour. Mom continued to enjoy life as best as she could. She loved to go to yard sales and have lunch with her friends at local restaurants. In 2019, Mom suffered a major fall making it impossible to live alone anymore and entered into long term care. Mom’s beautiful smile will be deeply missed as she leaves behind her children; Clark (Maxine) Comley of New Brunswick; Lynn (Rex) Stoddard of Clark’s Harbour and Mark (Jane) Comley of Clark’s Harbour. She also leaves behind grandson John Fall and 10 other grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jack Cunningham, brother Andrew Godfrey, first husband and father of her children Frederick Comley and granddaughter Shawna. One of her deepest heart breaks was the passing of her eldest daughter Leath Ann Lezette in 2018. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. There will be visitation on Monday, December 19th from 7-9 pm at the Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 20th at 2 p.m., at H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington with Gary Cunningham officiating. Interment to follow in the Oakvale Cemetery, Clark’s Harbour. The funeral service will be live streamed for those unable to attend the service. Memorial donations may be made to the New Testament Baptist Church, The Hawk or any charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
