Gloria Elizabeth Learning July 23 1944 to May 4 2022

Gloria Elizabeth Learning (nee Soper) was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She passed away peacefully on May 4, 2022, age 77, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital.
She was born to Fred and Florence Soper (nee Nightingale) on July 23, 1944. An only child, she was beloved by her parents and grandparents. Her family grew when she met Edward Learning. They married in 1963 and, together, they had a son: Peter. She is survived by her husband, Ed; son, Peter; daughter-in-law, Wanda; granddaughter, Maria (Howie); and many beloved family and friends.
Gloria worked with the Canadian Red Cross for 41 years. In her spare time, Gloria loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious baked goods for her family. She found beauty in the garden that she tended in her many years on Salmonier Line. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities, including reading and puzzles. She was especially proud of her 71 years of service with Girl Guides of Canada. She held numerous positions, up to and including, Deputy Provincial Commissioner. She was a Trefoil Guild Liasson for Newfoundland and Labrador and one of the founding members of the Caw-Ta-Ka-Ye Trefoil Guild. She received many Guiding Awards, including the National Beaver Award.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Friday, May 6 from 5-9 p.m. Committal service will take place in Forest Road Anglican Cemetery on Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Girl Guides of Canada on her behalf.
