Obituary
Our Favourite Hello …… our Hardest Good-bye
(Leland) Glen Wilson
March 24,1958 – October 17, 2022
Glen “Woody” Woodrow Wilson, as he was affectionately known by his classmates, loved being a teacher, father, husband, son and friend. (not necessarily in that order)
He joked about but loved the fact that he was born in Saskatchewan, that he was a P.K. (preacher’s kid), that his education was east (Kingsway College) vs west (Canadian Union College) and that he was fortunate enough to graduate with his Bachelors of Education from CUC (Burman University) followed later by his Masters in Educational Administration from Andrews University. (yes back to the East)
Although he taught a variety of classes from kindergarten to Gr 12 his passion was always his high school students – challenging their understanding, questioning their theories and always, always getting in the last joke. His willingness to always hear the students side of the story and honestly answer the why questions was one of the reasons his office and home frequently had a pile of shoes outside the door and a pile of kids inside – that and the plentiful supply of popcorn, Cool Ranch Doritos and a Pepsi.
Life and work moved Glen and his family across Canada and the USA and though the faces and homesteads changed the constants were an open door, a listening ear, advice – solicited or not and of course sports……. Playing, watching, coaching, or just dreaming of football, baseball, basketball, hockey, golf….(not necessarily in that order) were as much a staple as the food and friends that went along with them.
And then there were the “golden pipes” ….not to be confused with the Vance & Hines pipes rumbling on the motorbike every weekend. No, the beautiful tenor voice he was blessed to share – he loved music. Be it soloing, duets, choirs, just listening to it or jammin’ with the boys on Friday night – music was always an important part of his life and it surrounded him as he took his final breath at home with those he loved.
Predeceased by his parents, Jim and Marelyn Wilson, and his brother Dennis Wilson – Glen was loved and cherished by many cousins, “chosen” family, and as he put it – ‘ the best in-laws you could hope for” – Wayne & Gail Leiske, and of course his students and fellow educators across the globe.
His spirit, passion, love of sports, music and muscle cars lives on in his children – Shayla and Jayden Wilson – and grandson Cayden and his “dream weaver” magic will surround his wife Noralynn endlessly….
Gone too soon….missed constantly….loved forever…
Glen would love his passion for education and sports to be continued so in remembrance of him please toss a football, hit a baseball, golf ball, puck or shout “fore” with some overlooked youngster and generously donate to a worthy student fund in your area.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Details will be announced as they become available.
