Gladys Florence Julien, 85 of Digby, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2022 in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in South Maitland, she was the daughter of the Fred and Georgina (Archibald) Bushey.
Gladys never missed a morning of being at the kitchen table to see her family off for the day. She was a wonderful mother, who always had hot meals on the table and a clean home for her cherished family. She taught her children many skills throughout the years, but most importantly, she taught her children unconditional love. Gladys gave them a back bone and lessons on perseverance that has taken them throughout the years, making her children who they are today. Gladys cared for her and Murray’s five children on her own as Murray was away serving in the Navy to support his family.
She was known for her awesome sense of humor and liked to play jokes on anyone if she got the chance. It was rare to hear Gladys complain much, especially after the children grew out of their younger fighting days. She disliked it when her children would argue with one another. As the children grew, they tried to not fight in Gladys’ presence, they did not want to upset her. Along with her family, dogs and cats shared her heart, she always had a dog, named Max, that she would treat as one of the children. Gladys also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, but was especially fond of hummingbirds.
Gladys was a very honest person, unless she was playing a board game, then she became fearless and was out to win. When Gladys had time for herself, she would enjoy playing bingo, going fishing at Big Lake, working on crafts, knitting, and enjoyed finding a great deal at a yard sale or Frenchy’s. For ten plus years, Gladys and her husband, Murray, played league darts. She loved movies about dogs, her favorite flower was the brown-eyed Susie, and her favorite color was as daring as her, red.
Gladys loved her family with all her heart, they were blessed to have such a loving mother. She was an earth angel, and one thing she could not teach her family was how to go on without her. “Love you to the moon and back!” love mom.
Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Darlene, Maria and Patricia; son, Timothy; nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Murray and son, Norman.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
