Gladys’ Obituary
Vandenburg, Gladys Vera – 81, Pugwash River, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2022 at home with her loving husband of 62 years. Born in Leicester, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Dorothy (Porter) Hunsley. Gladys had worked at Beaton’s Nursing Home for eight years and went lobster fishing with her husband Donald for ten years. She enjoyed, gospel music, the Pugwash River Church, the U.C.W., boating on the Pugwash River, gardening, yearly Cape Breton visits, going to yard sales on Saturday with daughter Brenda, evening walks, Sunday take out suppers, attending dances with her husband and playing darts in Oxford. She always kept her daily journals. She will forever be loved and missed and the memories will live on with everyone she has touched. Gladys is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Brenda (Arnold) MacDonald, Oxford, Donna Vandenburg, Pugwash, Ann Vandenburg (predeceased by Stephen Allen), Pugwash River, Dorothy Vandenburg (Paul Angus), Pugwash, Lynn Vandenburg (Thomas Holden), Pugwash, Shaun (Ann) Vandenburg, Oxford; several grandkids and great grandkids. She was predeceased by several other loved ones. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday April 30, 2022, at Donald & Gladys’ home, 526 Pugwash River Road, Pugwash River. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Pugwash River Cemetery or the charity of one’s choice.. Thank you to the VON, the palliative care team and the staff of the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital for providing the most compassionate care.

  1. Dear Donnie & Family. My sincere sympathy on the loss of your dear wife, mother & grandmother. My Mom & I would take her niece, Dorothy, up from Port Hood to visit with you both the past few years. It was my pleasure to have met Gladys & you, Donnie. It was then I realized what a great deal she meant to her niece. May it help to know your friends are praying for Gladys & all your family at this time of great loss.
