Obituary
Gladys Gwenn Whiting passed away on August 24, 2022 at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, BC at the age of 87. She was born on May 26, 1935 in Rolla BC to Elsie (Wetherill) Durney and Laveril Durney.
Gladys was raised on a farm in Groundbirch, BC with her mother Elsie, her stepfather Clarence Linsley and siblings Earl and Wallace Linsley.
Gladys was married to James Brown from 1956 to 1974 where they resided in Chetwynd, BC with their children Vernon, Venessa and Vance. The family eventually grew to include grandchildren Dallas (Natasha), Riley, Tyrell (Mimi), Mitchell, Bradley (Niki), Ethan and Cade as well as eight great grandchildren.
Gladys met Wilfred Whiting in 1986 and they married in 1992 in Taylor, BC. She welcomed stepchildren Rena, Lyle, and Carrie into her life, and with Wilfred’s support, they raised her grandson, Tryell. The couple often said that trying to keep up with him was what kept them both young!
Gladys enjoyed being outdoors; horseback riding, camping and gardening. She also liked to bake, chocolate cake was her favorite. Gladys took pleasure in watching her grandsons play sports. and playing with her great grandchildren.
As per Gladys request there will be no formal funeral service, but a private Celebration of Life for immediate family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chetwynd & District Hospital Foundation.
