Obituary
Gladys Carol Foster (nee Williams) passed away at Avenir Memory Centre on May 4th, 2022 surrounded by her sons Corky & Pat Place (Powell River), Cameron & Barb Foster (Duncan) and Jon Foster (Nicole) (Comox). She came from a large family having 6 siblings, of which, she was the last surviving member.
Gladys was born February 7, 1918 in Vancouver to Agnes and Joe Williams. The family left to homestead in Horsefly, BC. Gladys then married Geoff Place in Dog Creek B.C. her first child Courtenay (Corky) was born in 1942.
She moved to Nanaimo and became a long-time resident opening a hair salon on Nicol Street. In 1948 she met and married her second husband Bob Foster and they were together for 67 years before his passing in August of 2015. Gladys and Bob welcomed two more boys to their busy family life; with the birth of Cameron in 1955 and Jonathan in 1958.
Gladys completed her teaching degree at University of Victoria where she taught Primary in the Nanaimo district, teaching in different schools and different grades until retiring in 1983. She loved travelling with her adult children and spending time with her seven grandchildren Lori and Sandy (Corky & Pat), Jennifer, Derrick and Tony (Cameron & Barb), Matthew and Georgina (Jon & Ruth).
After retirement she became an avid golfer and loved skiing at Mount Washington and always had a full house with her large family, now rounded out with the addition of four great-grandchildren – Kyla (Ryan), Maggie (Daniel) Jacob and Halayna.
Gladys golfed up to the age of 90 years – in her evenings she loved reading, crocheting took up water colour painting and needlepoint. Towards the end of her life she was blessed with the birth of great-great-grandchildren Bryleigh and Logan (Kyla and Ryan) who she was able to meet before her passing.
Corky, Cameron and Jon would like to thank the nurses and care team at Avenir Memory Centre for providing their mother with excellent care in the last two years of her life.
