Obituary
Gilbert Raymond Goobie,76, of Holyrood passed away on January 9, 2022. After surviving a long and courageous battle with many life-threatening ailments, it was Covid that made him shake hands with the lord.
Gil was born on September 25, 1945 to Charles and Stella Goobie in St. John’s, NL. Went to school, got married, had children and worked for the same company for his entire career. Gil worked for Irving Oil for 38 years and was highly valued and a respected member to his peers, and the Irving family directly.
Gil was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. Life was not east for Gil and nothing was ever handed to him but his family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned if you knew him. He was unendingly proud of all his kids, and loved his wife as much as any man could and provide as best he could, but the most important provision was love.
Gilbert eventually met the love of his life Patsy Elizabeth Pynn, and they wed on March 5, 1965, going on to have 5 children, Hursey (Tony) Feitas, Paul (Juanita) Goobie, Kenneth Goobie, Rodney (Elena) Goobie and Stephen (Caroline) Goobie and John (Kit) Kelly.
Anyone who knew Gil, knew that he was the most loving father, grandfather, uncle, friend, brother, mentor, and husband a family could ask for. Gil was predeceased by parents Stella and Charles Goobie, sisters, Agnes, Kathleen (Bill), and Patricia, brothers, Charles (Elizabeth), Cecil (Florence), and Donald (Joan). He is survived by sisters, Shirley (Frank, deceased), and Toots (Jack), brothers, Edward (Joan) and Gerry (Nancy), grandchildren, Connie, Jessica, Andrew, Kevin, Vanessa, Abigail and Jaxon, as well as great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11am, following Alert level 4 guidelines, proof of vaccination and masks are required to attend the service. The service will be lived stream and a link will appear on www.barretts.ca.
