Obituary
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Gertrude (Folsom) Lewis of McKenzie Corner announces her passing on Monday, January 24, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Houlton, Maine on July 12, 1940 to the late Paul and Lucy Folsom.
Gertrude married the love of her life Reed after he claims she chased him around the square in Houlton and she caught him after the soles of his shoes wore out. She took him to the church by his ear on June 26, 1959. From there, she came to Canada and began to grow a family.
She is survived by her husband Reed Lewis and their children: Gail Lewis of McKenzie Corner, Mike (Dorothy) Lewis of Woodstock, Debbie (Willie) Dunphy of Richmond Corner, Peter (Talitha) Lewis of Fort McMurray and chosen daughter Debbie Tapley (#1 Daughter) of Woodstock; grandchildren: Rachel Faulkner (Shane), Heather Lewis (Troy), Melissa Dunphy (Jesse), Megan Dunphy, Skylar Lewis and Jasmine Lewis; great grandchildren: Christina Faulkner, Lincoln Faulkner (Madison), Kalee Daye, Jayden O’Neil, Landon Ingraham and Leland Ingraham.
Gertrude is also survived by her siblings: Jane (Bob), Linda, Dorothy, Mary (Alan), Joan, Patricia (Roger), Peter (Julie), Timmy (Joyce), Kenny (Pauline), Sonny (Diane), Clifford, Gene (Susan) as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and many great friends.
Along with her parents, Gertrude was predeceased by brother-in-law’s Richard Gogan, Thorsten Sanders, Alvin Jones, Lloyd Larocque; sister-in-law’s Marion Jones, Lynda Lewis.
Loving mother, devoted grandmother and great grandmother, Gert’s family was blessed to have her in their lives. Gert always took the time to care and love all those around her. She was mischievous and always up for a good laugh. She loved to play games (especially B-I-N-G-O) and was known for her delicious cooking. She would give you anything and never ask in return; she was one of the strongest women we have been blessed to know!
Christmas dinner will never be the same without her delicious turkey gravy and stuffing. She was our “rock” and we will miss her immensely.
“She was a never-ending stream of selfless love” (-Rooh)
There will be no visitation or service at this time.
If so desired, the family has suggested donations in memory of Gertrude be made to the McKenzie Corner & Area Cemeteries Committee (contact Carleton Funeral Home or call 277-1091 or 277-6508) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville NB.
