Obituary for Gertrude Agnes De France (nee DaCosta)
Passed away peacefully in the early hours on February 19, 2022 at Hamilton General Hospital, at the age of 88. Thank you to her family doctor, Dr. Kate Prangley and Dr. Ali Hersi, and the wonderful ER staff.
Agnes and Felix were proud of their five children: Diane (William), Marilyn, Bryon (Kinga), Colin (Janey) and Jacqueline, and their seven grandchildren: Davin (Samantha), Amanda (Michael), Cameron (Nikki), Michael (Kaitlyn), Kevin, Daniel (Sarah) and Christopher.
Agnes found great joy in her seven great-grandchildren: Archer, Rylan, Cohen, Nolan, Haley, Mia and Lyla.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana to loving parents Muriel and Joseph DaCosta. Agnes will be missed by her siblings: Felix (Pat), Cil, Greg, Ilona (Garth), Claire (David) and Tony (Dianne). Agnes was preceded in death by her siblings Gwen (Percy), and Julian, her sister-in-law Claudette and her dear friend Euard Kyle.
Agnes was a generous, caring soul who found great solace in her Roman Catholic faith. She was a wonderful seamstress who made Christmas pajamas a tradition for her loved ones for many years.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, 796 Eyer Drive, Pickering, L1W 3C2 on Saturday February 26, 2022 at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, 7770 Steeles Ave East, Markham.
Agnes cared deeply for children and was a life long supporter of Covenant House. We ask for donations to Covenant House in lieu of flowers.
She loved gardening and had a passion for roses. Her family is planning to dedicate a rose garden climber in the Royal Botanical Gardens in her name. If you would like to contribute, please go to
