Gerrit Dirk Wassink June 23rd 1931 January 16th 2022

Peacefully, surrounded by his loving children on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Bluewater Health, Gerrit Dirk Wassink went to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 90. “He is my refuge, my God in whom I trust”. Predeceased by his wife of 2 years, Margje vanHarten (1957) and wife of 55 years, Pietje Dijkstra (2013). Loving father of Didi (Harry) van Klaveren, Johan (Wendy) Wassink, Fred (Trish) Wassink, Ingrid (Fred) Johnston, and Dianne (John) VanRooyen. Proud grandfather of Kristin (Jeff) Kingma, Elysia (Mark) Rekman, Karel (Kaitlyn) van Klaveren, Gerrit (Lauren) van Klaveren, Shawn Wassink, Jessica Wassink, Steven Wassink, Nathan (Amy) Wassink, Jenda (Ryan) Hamelinck, Jorim (Rachel) Wassink, Andrea Wassink, Calvin (Louisa) Johnston, Philip (Jessica) Johnston, Danae (Enoch) Yeboah, Darren (Johanna) Van Rooyen, Joel (Tina) Van Rooyen, Lauren (Trevor) Zandstra, Stephen Van Rooyen. Treasured great-grandfather of 25 great-grandchildren. Brother to Evert (late Klaziena) Wassink of Brampton, ON; Jenny (late Wilhelm) Stam, Herma (late Jan) TerAvest, Mieke (late Gerrit) Timmerman, late Dinand (Griet) Wassink late Johan (Janny) Wassink, Gerard (Stienie) Wassink, Dyo (Jenneke) Wassink, Herman (Anneke) Wassink, all of The Netherlands. Gerrit was a gentle person who greeted people with trust and care. He loved to engage people in conversation and took an interest in their lives. He was a hardworking man with an adventurous and determined spirit. As an immigrant in the mid-fifties life was difficult in Brazil and tragedy struck quickly with the death of his first wife and a business partner. While he was determined to succeed in Brazil, in 1970 he moved his family of seven to Canada. He often said that this was a wise decision for the wellbeing of his family. Gerrit was a man of great faith and He trusted that God would provide for him no matter the obstacles in life.
