Obituary of Gerda Schild
Gerda Schild née Ledwez, April 14, 1944 – August 22, 2022.
We are saddened to announce the sudden death of Gerda Schild who passed away on August 22, 2022 in her home, at the age of 78.
She was predeceased by her son Darrell (Maryellen) Schild, her sister Lena Hildebrandt, and her parents Herbert and Antonie Ledwez.
She is survived by her beloved husband John Schild; her daughters Patti Dompierre and Linda Cannatelli. Cherished grandmother to Jolene, Brock, Rebecca, Bradley, Neil and Rachel; and loving great-grandma to Benjamin, Sofia, Axel and Violet. She will be remembered by her siblings Walter (Gertrude) Ledwez, Harry (Margaret) Ledwez and Erika Ledwez.
Gerda was an exceptional gardener, who took great pride in maintaining her beautiful home garden and exotic varietals. She enjoyed travelling with her husband John to warm destinations and spending summer days sitting in the garden. They spent many summers fishing together on the water.
Gerda was a loving and affectionate mother and grandmother. She took great interest in her family, always offering support and unconditional love. She often showed her affection by nourishing her family with home grown vegetables and homemade meals.
She was a well-loved employee at Heidehof for 25 years. She has touched many lives, built many connections and will be dearly missed.
We thank the Lord for all the years we had with Gerda and are consoled by the fact she is now with her beloved son Darrell in heaven, and in the arms of Jesus.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 28 from 6-8pm at George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 11am in the funeral home’s ceremony room.
