Obituary of Gerald Johnson
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Gerald Johnson, a resident of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, on Friday, August 12, 2022, at the age of 83 years.
Gerald Robert Johnson was born January 22, 1939, in Innisfail, Alberta, to Elmer Lane Johnson and Doris (Borchert) Johnson. Gerald grew up and attended school in the Wimborne, Alberta, district.
After his schooling, Gerald worked for a time on the rigs. In 1963 he married Jeanette Haderer and they started farming in the Lone Pine district east of Didsbury, Alberta, starting the Lone Pine Jersey herd. He was a leader in the Mountain View 4-H Dairy Club and a Director on both the Alberta Jersey Cattle Club and Jersey Canada.
After selling the farm he retired first to an acreage near Olds, Alberta, and then to Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. He was a member of the Didsbury Lions Club and later the Tumbler Ridge Lions Club. In his retirement Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Gerald is survived by his son Robert (Jeannette) Johnson of Dawson Creek, BC; his daughters Angela (Bogdan) Stanescu of Richmond Hill, ON, Brenda (Carl) Rahn of Didsbury, AB and Janice (Dean) Turner of Tumbler Ridge, BC; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; his sister Donna Schild of Walla Walla, Washington; the mother of his children Jeanette Johnson; and his crib buddy Tom Cuthbertson.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Alvin, Howard, Lawrence, and Lloyd; and his sister Blanch Wilson.
Gerald’s final resting place will be in Alberta where the ‘wild crocuses grow’.
