Gerry joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1957, serving in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and National Headquarters in Ottawa, where he retired at the rank of Assistant Commissioner, serving as the Force’s Director of Personnel. Following his retirement in 1994, Gerry returned to his adopted province where he continued to serve his community in a number of capacities with the Knights of Columbus, the Corps of Commissionaires, the RCMP Veteran’s Association, the Last Post, and many other local and national organizations.
It was at his second posting, in Grand Bank NL, that Gerry met Hannah, the love of his life beginning a partnership that lasted more than 60 years. Hannah supported Gerry in his professional endeavours, and they were blessed to enjoy a long retirement in St. John’s, Leahy’s Road, and Panama City Beach. She continued to love and care for him in their home until he died surrounded by the loving family that they had built together.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Roy Lily for his many years of care, and Dr. Roger Butler and Jennifer Williams NP of the Provincial Home Dementia Care Program, the team at Tender Loving Care, and Caul’s Funeral Home.
