Gerald Kimberly “Kim”‘s Obituary
RAWDING, Gerald Kimberly “Kim” ~ it is with great sadness that our family announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, Gerald Kimberly “Kim” Rawding, 68, of Weston, Kings Co., from injuries sustained in an accident on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
Kim was born in Kentville on April 3, 1954, to parents, Reta (Thomas) and Lester Rawding, and was lovingly raised by his mother, Reta and stepfather, Donald Sawlor. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lorna (Cyr); son, Barry (Melissa); grandchildren, Cammron, Emma and Mackenzie; great granddaughter, Rayna; sisters, Beverly Morse; Heather (Gordon) Avery; nieces, Shelley, Michelle, Susan, Angie, Lyndsay and Lauren; nephews, Richard, Robert, Ray, Leslie, and Evan; several great nieces and nephews.
Kim was predeceased by his parents; his son, Jeff; maternal grandparents, Starr and Mary (Creemer) Thomas; paternal grandparents, John and Etta (Lutz) Rawding; Manning and Sadie (Foster) Sawlor; brother, David Rawding; nephews, Michael Rawding and David Morse (in infancy); great niece, Ashley Rawding.
Kim was an early riser and a hard worker who took pride in a job well done. Prior to retirement, Kim worked for G.K. Morse Trucking, Welton Construction and Tidewater Construction before becoming an owner/operator of his own trucking company for 11 years. In 1984, he joined his father at Sawlor Fuels in Somerset. He later purchased the business and opened branches in Digby and Bridgewater.
He was an off-road enthusiast, a Nascar and Formula 1 fan. He loved time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed a good time – whether playing cards at the camp, telling jokes, listening to music or sharing a beverage.
He enjoyed many journeys, having travelled extensively in Canada, the United States (making it to all 50 states), Europe, Australia, New Zealand. Winters prior to the pandemic were spent in the southern States.
Kim will be missed by his family, many friends and former business associates near and far. He loved animals and will be missed by his cat, Teddy and the four-legged girl next door, Kibbles.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, in Berwick Cemetery, Main Street, Berwick, with Rev. Andrew Conrad officiating – for those who wish to attend.
