Gerald’s Obituary
DUGAS, Joseph Jacques “Gerald” – Age 97, of La Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, formerly of Grosses Coques passed away Thursday, November 3rd, 2022, in the villa. Born on July 15th, 1925, he was a son of the late Ulysses and Frances (Saulnier) Dugas.
Gerald’s first occupation was at the Halifax Shipyard as an electrician on the military boats. He moved to Renfrew, Ontario and worked as an electrician at the Hydro Plant. He then returned to Grosses Coques and built a service station which he operated and managed, J. Gerald & Son Ltd., from the age of 32 until his retirement. He sold vehicles for MacDonald Motors and later for Yarmouth Chrysler. His passion in life was selling cars and visiting the local café. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Conseil Sigogne, Comeauville. When he retired, his hobbies included tending his orchard, beekeeping and making military model airplanes.
He is survived by daughters Della (Louis) Comeau, Belliveau Cove; Doreen (Michael) d’Entremont, Raynardton; son, Ricky Dugas, Grosse Coques; grandchildren, André Comeau, Ardoise, Hants County; Miranda Doucet, Saulnierville Station; great-grandchildren, Lexie, Patrique and Hailey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Therese Dugas and brother, Amedée Dugas.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Church Point where burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund, Church Point.
