Obituary
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald Eugene Wilcox on August 13, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Saint John, NB, on June 9, 1941, to the late Cecil and Ona (Benson) Wilcox and was the loving husband of 60 years to his wife, Marcia (Johnson) Wilcox.
Gerald worked his entire career as both a pipefitter and an industrial mechanic with Rothesay Paper and at the Irving Pulp and Paper Mill. Gerald was a very smart and knowledgeable man who liked to read and loved to learn. He also just simply had the ability to know how to do things inherently. He was a lifetime supporter of both the Toronto teams – The Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs and loved watching them play. Gerald and Marcia loved to travel and play golf and one of their main trips was to Fundy National Golf Course where they would play the entire course twice in order to finish 18 holes. He had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone in need. Gerald liked to go fishing and loved the social aspect of the hunting camps and loved spending time with his friends, but above all, he was a family man. Gerald was very traditional when it came to family, in that a family supports and loves each other, no matter what. Your family sticks together and he always maintained that. He loved to be around them all and never took any moment with his family for granted. He was a genuine man who will always be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
In addition to his loving wife, Marcia, he is survived by his son, Terry (Tammy); his daughters, Susan (Malcolm) Campbell, Catherine Arseneault and Shelly (Jeffrey) Spencer; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Anne Laundry) and Lloyd (Carol Brown); along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Ernie and Vinnie Wilcox, and his twin sisters, Mary Thorne and Rose Mitchell.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-7pm. A funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 10am with a reception to follow at the funeral home, before interment which will take place in Pennfield Rural Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations in Gerald’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, the Alzheimer Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
