Obituary
Georgina Barath passed on peacefully with her immediate and extended family by her side, on April 10th, 2022. She was 73 years young.
She and her late husband Antal (Tony) Barath were long-time residents of Athabasca County.
From her birth, in Simcoe, Ontario to the late Ruth Knox, and through her entire life, she displayed a quiet strength and gentle kindness that will always be remembered. Georgina met her lifelong love, Tony Barath, in high school. They married in 1969 and began to raise a family that grew to six kids. Next to her family, Georgina loved the outdoors, nature, and animals. This love grew into a vocation as they spent many years farming, growing gardens, and being close to the earth no matter where they lived.
Aside from this, Georgina’s other passion was raising her six kids with an unconditional love and kindness rarely seen. She also found room in her heart for various pets, most recently Baxter, her furry companion in later years.
Georgina and Tony had many adventures in Ontario, California, and later, made their way to Alberta where they still managed to move around before finally settling in the rural area around Athabasca. They spent many great days canoeing, fishing, photographing, and exploring the mountains and lakes. The mountains were one of her favourite places. Georgina had a quiet curiosity, and a desire to learn and experience the world. She loved to visit her children and travel to warm destinations when she had the chance. She was always up for a conversation, whether it was casual and fun or serious and deep. She also had a great knowledge and appreciation of animal husbandry, gardening, and cooking which she was very proud to pass on to her children and their children.
When she was no longer well enough, she moved in with her son, and was well taken care of by the family dog who would lay with her to give gentle comfort and warmth. Georgina will be forever loved by her children: Trish (Dwight), Jason (Sue), Katie, Charles (Heather), Melissa (Wes), and Tim; her 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; her sister Dorothy (Charlie). Gentle, kind, compassionate, and proud. She leaves nothing but beautiful memories for all who knew her.
Georgina’s funeral service will be held at the Athabasca Community Chapel in Athabasca on Saturday, April 16th 2022 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any animal rescue or refugee organization.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Georgina Patricia Barath November 19 1948 April 10 2022 (age 73)..
