Georgina GiniB Bourque 1973 2022

Georgina (GiniB) Lee Bourque
1973-2022
Gini was born in 1973 in Moncton, New
Brunswick. She was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and as
a Project Manager took the diagnosis on as a challenge, with as
much professionalism and passion as she would take on any
other project in her life. She referred to it as her “BC
Project,” (Breast Cancer) Project. Her incredible spirit
and perspective on life allowed the BC Project to be a source
of inspiration to others, rather than one of sadness and
pain, as it could have otherwise been. On April 12, 2022
Gini’s BC Project came to an end and she is finally
now able to rest.
Gini is survived by her loving and
supportive husband Wray Dunn, her parents Thomas and Karon
Bourque, her siblings Diana Bourque (Steve Dawson), Sandra
Bourque (Marty Wry), and Thomas Bourque Jr. (Lise-Anne
Beaulieu-Bourque). She had many special children in her life
that she did not give birth to but loved fiercely, including
her bonus children Kayden Dunn (Isaac Cook) and Nikki Dunn
and special nieces and nephews Natalie Dawson, Alison and
Jacob Scharnberg, Jillian Breau (Matthew Hiscock), Wade Wry,
Simon Bourque, Jillian, Alison, and Devin Pilbeam, Kara,
Norah, and Logan Dunn, and Liam Dunn; godson Evan Beach;
along with the #23 kids, Young Philanthropists Alessandro and
Genevieve, and all the Montclair kids. She will always be
remembered by the many members of the Dunn and Bourque families, along
with her devoted friends and her IGT Family.
Gini graduated from Harrison Trimble
High School and was a fiercely competitive student-athlete,
always the tiny but mighty powerhouse on any team. You
didn’t want to cross her on the field hockey pitch!
She was a ball of energy. She carried her love of sports and
her sense of fair play through her life, and was a constant champion
of the underdog. Gini cherished her time on the golf course,
watching the Blue Jays (eating peanuts), walking around Jones
Lake, and cheering on the Buffalo Bills. She loved those
Bills and traveled far and wide to see them play.
Gini was also an animal lover, owning
many cats and dogs throughout her lifetime. She ultimately
grew to adore Greyhounds after adopting her first in 2000. She was a
fervent supporter of dog rescue organizations and she and her
four greyhounds made guest appearances at many events
promoting adoption.
In her later years, Gini’s
passion became fundraising for the Sheldon H. Rubin Oncology
Clinic. She was the face of many campaigns with The Friends of
Moncton Hospital Foundation. She loved answering the phones
and speaking to donors, and was a comforting voice to those
who had lost loved ones. She was always up for a
public appearance or media interview, and felt it was her
calling to help “Support the H.” She cycled to
raise money for NB Doctors Cycling Against Cancer and played a huge
part in its record-breaking campaign. The image of Gini with
crossed arms and a determined look in her eye while wearing
the Moncton Hospital biking shirt will always be a symbol of
strength, tenacity, and perseverance.
Gini had a personality that made you
want to be around her, and a sincerely kind hearted attitude
that made others feel special. She had a moral compass that was
rarely wrong. She was an expert at giving advice, solicited
or otherwise, her favorite question was “why,”. She
was naturally very curious and a true critical thinker.
Gini’s eyes always lit up when she did some of her
favorite things, like using a power tool, floating at
the beach, winning at scrabble, hitting a green in
regulation, finding a great pair of shoes, and seeing the
people she loved and adored the most. Her smile literally transformed
a room. Her sense of humor would leave a person with cheeks
that were sore from laughing… and Gini was
“never ever ever boring.”
Gini wanted to change the world. She
wanted to do good things, and make a difference. She reached
those goals, beyond measure. She forever changed the lives of those
who knew her, and many more who did not. Her life was too
short, but her spirit will last forever. She was loved and
will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank all the
many people who helped Gini in the latter part of her life,
including the Oncology Team at the Moncton Hospital, the staff on
4200, Drs. Harb, Goobie, Salem and Mukherjee, staff at the
Dr. Sheldon H. Rubin Oncology Clinic, and the Extramural
Nursing Team.
Visitation will take place at Ferguson
Funeral Home 1657 Mountain Rd, Moncton Monday April 18 from 2-4 and
6-8 pm followed by a private family service Tuesday April 19. While
Gini adored receiving flowers, she would love donations to the Friends
of the Moncton Hospital even more, to continue her legacy of
helping others. Donations can be made in Gini’s memory to
the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.
