Georgeta Chirita Obituary
February 28, 1927 – April 8, 2022
Georgeta Chirita, Ph.D. passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the age of 95 in Stoney Creek. She was loved and cherished in life by her granddaughter Simona (Razvan) who cared for her every step of the way.
Married to Constantin (predeceased) for 47 years, she will be missed by her daughter Mariana (Marshall), her great-grandson William and her brother Corneliu (Elisabeta).
Georgeta was born in Romania where she lived till the age of 81 when she immigrated to Canada to be with her family. She lived a life that would be an inspiration to any woman living today. An accomplished academic having worked at the university for her entire career, she wrote six books on topics related to her field of study (primarily pedagogy), taught, coached and mentored thousands of students, many who were Olympic athletes in the 60’s and 70’s. While doing all of that, she had a family and wonderful close relationships enjoying life with everything it had to offer, most of all taking advantage of travel opportunities and spending time at her vacation home in the mountains, in the small town of Predeal where she was born and grew up. After her retirement in 1982, she dedicated her life to raising her granddaughter and being the centre of her family, supporting her daughter in her pursuits and being a loving wife to her husband till his sudden death in 1997. In 2008, after spending many years visiting Canada, she decided to settle here permanently while awaiting the birth of her great-grandson. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, curiosity and courage. She was always independent, resourceful, organized, very strong willed and had a desire to live a long, beautiful life. She impacted so many people throughout her life and career, but most of all that of her granddaughter who will forever look at her as a role model. While she will miss her grandmother’s physical presence, her spirit will continue to guide her and provide comfort. A special thank you goes to all the staff at Orchard Terrace Care Centre where Georgeta spent the last few years of her life for their care and their kinds words and support during this difficult time. A private religious ceremony will take place for family only.

In lieu of a financial donation, it is customary in the Romanian Orthodox tradition to give away a small treat such as a slice of chocolate cake, a cup of coffee or a bottle of wine (her favourites) to someone in need, a neighbour or a friend in memory of someone who passed away.
