WETHERUP, George Allen – 77 of Delray Beach, Florida peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer, with his husband Mark and daughters Deborah and Tammy by his side. George was born in Welland Ontario Canada on February 1, 1945 to the late Wilda Elsie Beaudin and step-father Donald Elsie. George graduated from Welland High School in 1963. After his graduation he went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a Medic stationed in Germany. He received the National Defense service
medal and Marksman (rifle). In June 1966 he went on to pursue his career in the medical field. He worked in the lab at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines Ontario where he met and married
Kathleen Baltus in 1967 and had two children, Deborah and Tammy Wetherup. Shortly after his first child he moved to Elmira, New York.
During his time in New York State he became a Registered Respiratory Therapist on November 13, 1977. In 1993 he met his future husband Mark Liburdi and moved to the state of Florida where they resided.
After working in the field for over 30 years, he retired from Bethesda Memorial Hospital in the Respiratory Therapy department as a Supervisor in April of 2013. He is survived by his husband Mark Liburdi, daughters Deborah Wetherup (Carl Hazen) and Tammy Wetherup/Wu (Sean), former wife Kathleen Elliott, grandson Timothy Kelly ll, granddaughter Brittany Lattimore (Christopher), great grandchildren, Aurora and Timothy Kelly lll, Taelynne, Zorah,
and Emil Lattimore. Close friend Janet Contrastano. He was predeceased by his brother Gary Baker and grandson Brennan Templar.
George cherished his family and friends and loved making memories. He enjoyed traveling, the art and skill of cooking, and applying what he learned into making amazing food for family and friends. He loved his constant companion “Bandit” and all the unconditional love he gave him. The family wishes to thank the staff at Trustbridge for the excellent care and support they provided George and the family while home on Hospice.
Friends are invited to visit the family at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland, Ontario Canada, on August 12th 2022 from 10am-1pm when a service will be held in the chapel.
