It is with great sadness that the family of George Stacey announces his passing at the age of 87 at his home on August 31st, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with COPD.
Born in Toronto, Ontario on December 19th, 1934, he was a son of the late George Stacey and Jean Blair (Hamilton) Stacey. George served as a Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 21 years, then was a Civilian Member of the RCMP for 14 years.
George, affectionately called “Umpa” by his family, was the kind of person who always had a joke to tell or a song to sing. He took great joy in sharing his favourite poems, puns, riddles, and rhymes, and he loved to make people laugh. Umpa was a force to be reckoned with when put behind a shopping cart; he could spend hours perusing the aisles at any Giant Tiger or grocery store, and you were lucky if you could keep pace with him. He would never turn down a chocolate chip cookie… or, really, any cookie at all. Late night snacks with Umpa were always accompanied by long talks about work, school, the best way to eat potstickers (or “potlickers,” as he liked to call them), and everything in between.
George is survived by his faithful wife of 67 years, Jeannette; his sons: Kevin (Cathy), Martin (Vickie), and Darin (Ana Maria); his grandchildren: Aaron (Michelle), Brianne (Jay), Juliana, and Alexander; his great-grandchildren: Addison, Brody, and Magnusson; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers Norman (Anne, deceased), Albert (Flo, deceased), and Carl (Anne).
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Royal Canadian Legion. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
