Obituary
George passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022 at the age of 99 years 9 months. George was born in Norway, October 29, 1922. When George was 7 years old he moved to the Lintlaw, Saskatchewan area with his mother and 3 siblings. The family farmed and George attended a country school until grade 8. He took Grade 9, 10 and 11 by correspondence and helped with the farm. In April 1941, George joined the Air Force. After training in Ontario, George boarded the troop ship in Halifax, Nova Scotia on his 19th birthday. After arriving in England, George was posted to a Royal Landing Air Force 410 Squadron where he served his entire 4 years.
After being discharged in 1945 he spent some time in Regina. A lot of the veterans would congregate at the Trianon Ballroom where George met the love of his life, Marie Dyer.
George and Marie married April 22, 1946 at the Anglican Church in Bulyea, Saskatchewan.
In 1950 the couple moved to Regina where George was a traveling salesman. He was on the road a lot but they also enjoyed many happy summer days at their cabin at Saskatchewan Beach with their four children.
In the Fall of 1961 the family built a house in Yorkton where George had purchased Shepherd Adamson Agencies. George worked very hard at building his new business but also was a hard working member of the Yorkton Lions Club. George was also a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Yorkton.
George and Marie went on many trips during their days in Yorkton. One of George’s favorite things was the many cruises he and Marie took. They made many wonderful lifelong friends on the cruises.
In August of 2009, due to failing health, Marie moved to Lakeside Manor in Saltcoats. After spending 2 winters in the house by himself, George decided to move into the Bentley. In April of 2011, George moved into the Bentley and made many new friends. He enjoyed his time at the Bentley playing cards, socializing and visiting. He especially enjoyed many visits with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Unfortunately, after his 97th birthday in October 2019, he fell and broke his hip. He spent a few months in the hospital, then Langenburg Nursing Home. As he was no longer mobile he found his permanent home in the Yorkton Nursing Home in February 2020. The staff took wonderful care of him and he greatly appreciated them.
