George’s love for family and the family farm were high priorities in George’s life. In 2013, George suffered a life-threatening heart attack, which resulted in a quadruple bypass heart surgery. Following the surgery, George continued to fuel machinery and monitor farm progress. In 2019, while he was fuelling a tractor, George fell and suffered a brain bleed. It was his second surgery and a turning point in his health. Following surgery, George continued to mow the multiple acre lawn at his and Norma’s residence, but his assistance on the farm moved to daily crop inspections.
In the summer of 2021, George’s health began to decline, and for the next six months, he courageously battled a weakening heart. On January 22, 2022, George passed away peacefully at the Athabasca Hospital with his grandson at his side.
George was a strong and gentle man with keen business and critical thinking skills. He loved the outdoors and travelling, and for years, he reminisced about his favorite vacation destination, which was Hawaii. He will be deeply missed on the farm, at the lake, and by the campfire with family and friends.
A burial service at the Athabasca Cemetery will take place on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Lyle Lewis officiating. A Celebration of Life will take place Summer of 2022.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the Athabasca Hospital, as well as all health care nurses and support for their excellent care and compassion provided to George throughout these last six months.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to The Ladies of Athabasca Healthcare Auxiliary Association.
