Peacefully at the Rosebridge Manor Nursing home on 2022 January 20. George Lawrence Eyre, lifelong dairy farmer on the Oak Leaf Road in Athens.
Beloved husband of 65 years to Thelma Eyre (Pilgrim). Precious father of Nancy Mallory (Jeff), John Eyre (Kathy), Jane Fournier (John) and David Eyre (Andrea). Loving grandfather of Ryan Eyre (Charisa), Andrew Mallory, Jason Eyre (Shelby), Wesley Eyre, Hillary Eyre, Alison Eyre and Matthew Fournier. Proud great-grandfather of Landen Lawrence Eyre.
Lawrence was born to Lily and William Eyre and is survived by siblings, Doug Eyre (Bev), Jean Young and Dorothy Singleton (Wally). He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Donald, Wesley, Alice, Marion, Gordon and Grace.
After his first grandson was born, he became affectionately known as “Poppy” and was loved by everyone for his kind, gentle ways and his sweet smile. When dementia became a part of his life, he cherished his moments at the CPHC Adult Day Program. When his health failed, he moved to the Rosebridge Manor in 2020 February. His family will forever be indebted for the TLC he received at both organizations where he felt loved and cared for. Rosebridge became his “Home away from Home”.
Poppy was born on 1927 August 21 in the farm house he lived in until 2020. He worked hard all his life and was a shining example to his family of the importance of hard work. He worked on the farm from early morning to evening and always said he hoped there would be work in heaven! His two sons, John and Dave and grandsons, Wesley and Jason joined him on the farm and created a successful dairy operation together which he was very proud of.
Music and church were a very important aspect of his life. He sang all his life from the time he was a young boy and has joined the heavenly choir. He was dedicated to his church and exemplified good Christian values his entire life.
He was a great husband, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, neighbour and friend and will be missed immensely.
