Obituary
It is with sorrow and a sense of loss that the family announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather George Kupilik on August 5, 2022 in Slave Lake at the age of 87 years.
Born in Taus Czechoslovakia on January 29, 1935, his harsh upbringing led him to leave his homeland at the age of 15. Finding work with the French Forces and then with the US army for a time, eventually sailing for Canada where he settled in Calgary, Alberta. There with a couple of dollars and all his worldly possessions he would start a new life, finding employment and marring his teacher, helper and treasure. Together with his wife and four children they would move to the Smith area in 1973. Taking on farming and a full-time job as a carpenter he worked very hard to provide a new home and build up his ranch, becoming a jack-of-all-trades. Finally retiring from Weldwood Forest Products as a millwright in 1990 at the age of 55 and not long after from farming, George had time to do more of what he loved. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, numerous other hobbies and took time to do some travelling.
George is survived in Canada by his four children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be arranged at a later date.
