Obituary
George Everet Still
June 30, 1927 – January 8, 2022
Peacefully in his sleep, George Everet Still passed away on January 8, 2022 at the age of 94. Everet (or George to some) was born at home in Arrow River, Manitoba, the second eldest of 9 children born to Bessie and James Still. In 1936, the family moved to Old England near Selkirk where he attended Mapleton School. At the age of 16, Everet worked for the Manitoba Rolling Mills, moving on to work in the gold mines in Ontario and BC and then to Nova Scotia with the RCAF where he was an Aero-Engine Mechanic working on Lancaster Bombers. He fell in love with Pat Wakefield from Chatham, Ontario and they were married in 1952. After being discharged from the air force in 1960, the following years were spent mainly in BC while he and Pat raised their family. After moving back to Selkirk in 1972, Everet went to RRCC to complete his schooling and obtained a Power Engineers Certificate at age 50, then worked at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary until his retirement in 1992.
Everet enjoyed the outdoors, curling, wood carving, researching family history (without a computer), reading about Gold Rush days and even taking a trip in BC with brothers Denis and Billy to look for gold nuggets, as well as many other interests. He and Pat enjoyed the many family gatherings with the large Still family and road trips out to BC and Saskatchewan to visit their grandchildren.
Everet will be sadly missed by his wife of 69 years, Lillian Patricia “Pat” Still (nee Wakefield), their children Diana (Bob), Carol (Gordon) and Tom (Judi), 7 grandchildren Kristi (Kyle), Kelly, David, Lisa, Sarah, Brett, Rianne and 3 great-grandchildren Amelia, Jackson and Audrey. Everet is also survived by sisters-in-law Lorraine, Yvonne and Diane and numerous nieces and nephews. Everet was predeceased by his parents and seven brothers Gordon, Ernie, Billy, Denis, Johnny, Gary and Kenny and one sister, Myrna. He is also predeceased by his and Pat’s first child, a baby girl, who died at birth.
His family would like to thank the caring staff at Selkirk Betel Home as well as friends and home care staff at Lions Centre in Selkirk. Cremation has taken place and a family graveside interment will take place at a later date.
