George (Gosse) Elzinga, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2022. After a short battle with cancer, he went to be with his Lord and Saviour. His beloved wife, Gepke (Zandstra), of over 60 years, was at his side. Loving father of six, George is survived by his children; Roger (Anita), Renita (Jeff), Helana (Rick), Floyd (Carolyn), Kevin (Deanna), Melanie (Kevin). He will be dearly missed by his 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Among his parents and other family members, he has joined his granddaughter Janice in heaven. He is remembered fondly by three of his sisters, and his absence will be keenly felt by his nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Born on December 10, 1937, in Roodkerk, Friesland, the Netherlands, George immigrated to Canada with his parents, Bouwe and Hinke Elzinga, and his three sisters in 1950 to Strathroy, Ontario. George was a hard-working and industrious dairy farmer; he loved to grow things and took great pride in the family’s large vegetable gardens. He was a gentle and caring man that sought to be a follower of Christ in all that he did, making friends everywhere he went. George and Gepke were a hard-working and servant-hearted couple together. They were enriched by many mission-in-service trips in Central America. George was a faithful man of prayer, loved singing on the praise team and especially loved his yearly experiences at Dunamis retreats. Due to gathering restrictions, a private funeral service will take place at Ebenezer CRC on Monday, January 24 at 10:30 A.M. but will be live streamed at www.jarviscrc.com/live-streams for those who wish to support the family in this way.
