George B. Cooper of Riverview passed away at Monarch Hall, on
Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the age of 93
years.
Born in Moncton he was the son of the late A. William and
Eliza J. (Bingham) Cooper.
George
was a graduate of Mount Allison University (B.Sc., 1949, B.Ed., 1950)
and Dalhousie Law School (LLB 1955). Prior to becoming a
lawyer, George taught school in Grand-Mère, QC.
He was called to the bar in 1955 and began practice with the
Department of Justice in Ottawa, specializing in Tax Law. He
returned to Moncton in 1959 and practiced law until his retirement in
2014. Over his long career he practiced in
numerous areas of the law and had several appearances in the Supreme
Court of Canada. Latterly, George served as counsel to Cox
& Palmer, where his many colleagues mourn his passing.
George loved his family, sailing and
opera. He spent his final years at Monarch Hall, where he
made many friends and received exceptional care.
George is survived by his daughter,
Elizabeth Cooper of Dartmouth, NS, and his son, George L. Cooper of
Moncton, together with his grandchildren, Phoebe, Abigail and George
Cooper.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife
Dorothy A. (Loughlin) Cooper, second wife Shirley MacCallum,
and by his son, Charles Cooper in 1997.
With Covid restrictions lifted, there will be a
Celebration of Life Service for George Bingham Cooper, QC on Saturday,
June 11, 2:00 pm at Trinity United Church, 379 Main St. Shediac,
NB.
There will
be some special music because of his love of music: flute, bagpipes,
piano, guitar and song. All are
welcome.
In lieu of flowers donations to Trinity United
Church, 379 Main St. Shediac, NB would be
appreciated.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Shediac,
NB
