The family of George Adamko is deeply saddened to announce his sudden and unexpected passing at home on the 19th of October, 2022.
In 1968, George “Dado” Adamko (1939-2022), fled communism from Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, with one suitcase and an electronics technician certificate. The following autumn in 1969, he met his now wife Marta, at a dance in Thunder Bay. A year later they married and were living in Atikokan, where he worked at Steep Rock mine. They started a family and began building his dream cabin. Moving back to Thunder Bay in 1974, George worked at Valley Camp Inc until retirement, plus many other extra jobs to support his growing family.
When George was not working, he was enjoying camp, building, fishing, playing cards, taking photos, and spending time with his family and friends. A never-ending learner, no lack of skill or ability stopped George. If he did not know how to do something, he would learn that skill, then do it well.
A man of few words but many meaningful expressions, George was ready for the next moment to insert a joke, a funny comment, or the most unexpected action, bringing simple joy and laughter to those around him. He loved life right up until the end, until he closed his big and beautiful blue eyes forever.
Survived by his loving wife of 52 years Marta (née Gvora), sons Robert (grandchildren Caylyn and Evan; wife Diane), Stephen, daughter Katherine (partner Rayf), Uncle Tony Gvora and his wife Beth and extended family in Europe. George is predeceased by his parents Anton and Olga Adamko, and brothers Imrich and Anton.
Funeral service: 10:00 AM – Thursday, October 27th, 2022 at Corpus Christi Church, 664 Red River Road.
