McLaughlin- It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Genevieve McLaughlin (Colborne), age 98 years at Afton Park Place in Sarnia. Born in Brigden to Art and Emmeline (Watson) Colborne, Genevieve lived on the farm on Highway #80 with Alvin (2002), her husband of 59 years. She was predeceased by all her siblings, Lloyd and Gordon Colborne, Vera Taylor, Velma Goodacre, and Maxine LaPier, as well as all of Alvin’s family who were always special to her. Mom was very active in the work of Courtright United Church, most especially Explorers, C.G.I.T. and U.C.W. She was a founding member of Courtright Friendship Club and worked at the Courtright Post Office. She was an avid card player and passed that enthusiasm on to most of her family. She was blessed to spend more than 40 winters at Sanlan Park in Lakeland, Florida where she made so many treasured friendships. In 1999, mom and dad moved to Sarnia and volunteered with several organizations and Mom became quite active in Central United Church, where she was made to feel very welcome and established even more friendships. Mom’s greatest joy was her family, daughters Linda Nantais (Michael), Lana Gavan (2015) and Jeannette Paterson (Bert); grandchildren, Susanne Rogers (Mark), Karen Nantais (Brent Sanford), Melanie Gavan (Tony Philips), Brian Gavan (Elvira, David Kilbreath (Kari), Aaron Kilbreath (Lauren) and Adam and Fraser Paterson. She was (Great) Grandma Genny to Brady Rogers (2012) and Lauryn Rogers (Nolan Langley), Alexander Gavan, Emmaline and Ryan Kilbreath and Lily and Jack Kilbreath. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Grace McLaughlin and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mom also treasured her longtime friendship with Nick Monsour and his loving family. We would like to thank Dr. Billy O’Mahony for his many years as mom’s family doctor. She was so grateful that he could be her doctor at Afton right up to the time of her passing. Words cannot express our appreciation to the Mayfair staff at Afton Park Place for their loving care and kindness shown to mom over the past 18 months. You are all incredibly special people. Special thanks also to Rev. Jill Rogers for her loving support and friendship to mom for so many years. Friends will be received at the Knight Funeral Home, 588 St. Clair, Corunna on Sunday November 27, 2022 from 1-4 p.m. where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday with Rev. Jill Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Moore-Union Cemetery, Mooretown.
