Gene “Kirk” MacLennan
1947-2022
The family is sad to announce the sudden passing of Kirk, age
75, of Aylesford on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at
home.
Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Calvin
and Margaret (Thomson) MacLennan.
Kirk was a loving and proud husband, father, grandpa and
great grandpa. His heart was quickly filled with love whenever his
family was near. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 54 years,
Mary (Ranson); children, Jody (Paul) Dixon, Thania MacLennan,
Merredith (Doug Lawrence) MacLennan; grandchildren, Matthew (Kelsie)
Hodges, Adele (Josh) Rainforth, Zackary Evans; great-grandchildren
Gracelyn and Ella Rainforth, Jaezer and Raddix Hodges; siblings, Karen
(Arch) Mitchell, Jennifer (Dave Cowan) MacLennan, Juanita (Jerry
Purcell) MacLennan, Shaun (Michelle Rogers) MacLennan, Sheena (Bruce
MacLean) MacLennan and Gwen MacLennan, many nieces and nephews, lodge
brothers and sisters, friends and neighbours.
Kirk was a devoted civil servant, joining the air cadets as a
teen and the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of 18. He spent his
entire 40+ year career serving our country.
Kirk also consistently volunteered in the community in which
he lived, most recently as a Steward of the Aylesford United Church,
Chairman of the Commission of the Village of Aylesford and proudly
delivering meals for VON’s Meals on Wheels
program.
Kirk was a longstanding member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge
No. 52 in Aylesford where he served as past District Deputy Grand
Master as well as the Mayflower Chapter No. 2 of Eastern Star in
Middleton and was the past Worthy Grand Patron of Nova
Scotia/PEI.
Kirk was an avid bowler, golfer, curler and DIYer who had a
love of gadgets and technology. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage,
whether working on cars or designing homemade projects and
tools.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A
combined Masonic and Eastern Star and funeral service will be held at
2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2023 in Aylesford United Church with
Reverend John Moses officiating. A reception will follow at the
Aylesford Fire Hall. All are welcome.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Fiona Peacock
and the doctors at the Cardiac Care Unit at the Valley Regional
Hospital for the extraordinary support and care provided to Kirk and
the entire family.
Donations in memory may be made to your local Food
Bank.
