Obituary of Gary Alan Cumming
PIEDMONT – Gary Alan Cumming, 61, Piedmont, passed away, Thursday, October 20, 2022, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, with his family by his side.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Robert William and Muriel Aveon (MacLeod) Cumming. Gary greatly enjoyed spending time in the forest and worked in forestry for many years. He was also a very accomplished “handyman” who could put his hand to most anything and had been employed with the late Cyril O’Connor for many years. Gary enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed Classic Country music and could be often heard playing along with his “air harmonica”. Gary was very proud of his “chosen daughters”, Lacy and Candace, for the wonderful ladies they have become. He was a kind and gentle man who possessed a wonderful sense of humour.
Surviving are his sisters, May (Gary) O’Connell, Porter’s Lake; Marie Wright, Piedmont; brother, Robert (Bernice) Cumming, Trenton; brother-in-law, Jack Dean, Broadway; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister, Arlene Dean; brother, James in infancy; brother-in-law, George Wright.
The family will receive visitors 10 – 10:50 a.m. Thursday, October 27 in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gail Johnson Murdock officiating. Interment will be in Piedmont Cemetery.
Gary’s family wish to thank the VG Site, 3.A, ICU staff for the wonderful care he received.
