Ormond Gary Smith (July 29, 1933 – January 27, 2022.)
With a sense of sadness and deepest gratitude, we honour the long and joyful life of our Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Gary. He is survived by sons David (Brenda), Patrick, granddaughters Emily and Elise (Ryan), great-granddaughter, Cecelia.
While he was born and lived all his life as a true “Brockville boy”, maintaining his heartfelt connection to his hometown, his successful career in Labour Relations as a Negotiation Strategist was far reaching. Through his work he touched many lives across the country in a true and meaningful way. He was a man for all people, of all backgrounds, working tirelessly toward achieving fairness for those whom he served. His passion for connecting with people, and his sense of kindness was still heard in conversations long after his retirement from the Communications, Energy and Paperworker’s Union, as a National Staff Representative in 1994.
In our own hearts the warmth of his character will live on, as will his sense of happiness in life and his unique capacity to help and find goodness in virtually all people.
Like his own father, he loved Brockville, its history, the river, and the unique charm of the 1000 Islands. He was a caring and loving father and grandfather. He was a dedicated friend to many. This is his legacy. He was loved and will remain so into perpetuity.
We offer the most sincere and heartfelt thanks to the Royal Brock Retirement Centre for the care extended and for the beautiful energy of the people who supported him. He felt loved by his caregivers as an extension of his family.
Internment will take place in the spring at the Oakland Cemetery.

No one could ask for a kinder more compassionate neighbor and friend. Michael and I will always remember his love for his miniature schnauzers and conversations we shared when we walked in the neighborhood. Gary was a friend to many and, long after retirement, continued to provide sage advice and always presented the other point of view. His memory will remain with us. Our condolences to the family.
