Passed away suddenly at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto, on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the age of 71. Beloved wife of Kenwyn for 31 years. Loving mother of Jennifer Barton (Matthew). Cherished grandmother of Owen, and was excited about the new grandson on the way. Much loved sister of Paul (Christine), Marie Lowe (David), John (Tracy), David (Susan), Shirley Miles (John), Lois (Sergio), and Ray (Hull). Beloved aunt and great aunt to 16 nieces and nephews and their children.
Gail lived life to the fullest keeping busy gardening, swimming (especially at the Family Cottage on Wren Lake), and serving at Stone Church. She loved to travel. She cherished memories of backpacking in South America and later Central America, North America, Europe, and the UK with Ken and Jennifer.
She had a heart for missions and the disadvantaged, spending most of her career in various roles at Yonge Street Mission. She opened Hallelujah Muffins, which combined her love for baking and training youth with employable skills. Then going on to eventually becoming the director of Evergreen Centre for Street Youth and Director of Employment Services at YSM. After retirement, she became involved as a volunteer with Romero House, closely supporting families in their transition to Canada.
She loved to serve her family, friends, and community. Spreading love through her amazing cooking and baking, words of encouragement, wisdom, and infectious smile. She left a lasting impact on those around her and she is so greatly missed by family, colleagues, and many friends.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway, on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 3-6 p.m. A celebration of life service will take place at Stone Church, 45 Davenport Road, Toronto, on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Yonge Street Mission.
