Obituary of Frederick John Crocker
Heaven is a little brighter today, as the electrician has arrived.
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frederick John Crocker announce his peaceful passing on December 8, 2021 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, surrounded by his loving family. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 43 years, Sheila, his children Ryan (Carla) and Sara (Elvis), and his greatest loves – his five babies; James, Emma, Lydia, Jake, and Tessa. He also leaves behind his furry companion, Puss. Fred was one of 11 children of parents, Thomas and Trephina Crocker, and leaves behind his beloved siblings; Ted (Kay), Elizabeth (Ron), George (Joy), Tony (Joy), Horace (Jackie), Alex (Dorothy), Morley, Jennifer (Glenn), Janet (Shawn), and Karen (Dwayne). Fred would gladly include his wife’s sisters Ada, Kay, Doris, and Ethel in his circle of love, along with a multitude of nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents, his brother Harry, Mother and Father in law Reg and Mary Crocker, and his beloved Aunt Julie who were already waiting for his big heart to arrive.
Fred came from humble beginnings, and through hard work, grit, and determination he created a well-established, and well-respected business as an electrician. His sense of family and humor helped shape his life and the legacy he left behind. Well known, and with a hearty laugh, his warm heart was always available to help anyone that needed him, friends, family, and even complete strangers. There was nowhere you could go that Fred wouldn’t find someone to strike up a conversation with and he would always make connections with someone he knew or a place he had been. He had close ties to his mother’s hometown of Parsons Pond, and his loss will certainly be felt strongly there.
For the last eleven years, Fred spent his time cherishing his ‘babies’. He loved his grandchildren more than life itself and spoke of them daily. He always wanted to know what “pop’s babies” were doing and always asked about their activities and school. He was so proud of all their accomplishments and loved to be able to watch them grow and learn. He was one of their biggest fans and always supported them in everything they did. No visit with pop was ever complete without him saying “pop loves ya” and “here’s a bit of money for a treat”.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the many kind doctors and nurses who played an instrumental role in Fred’s journey. He adored every healthcare provider he met, always showing them the utmost respect and kindness. During his bi-weekly visits to the chemo ward, he always made sure he had a special treat for the nurses there.
To honor and respect Fred’s wishes, there will be a public viewing at Fillatre’s Funeral Home at 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake, NL on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00pm and then another viewing on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at St. Simon & St. Jude Anglican church in Trout River, NL. The funeral will take place on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021 at 1:00pm at St. Simon & St. Jude Anglican church in Trout River with Reverends Leggo and Elgar officiating. Vaccination passport, photo ID and face masks required for both the visitation and funeral service. Cremation will take place after the funeral. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Deer Lake. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are welcome, or a donation may be made in Fred’s memory to St. Simon & St. Jude Memorial Fund. Interment will take place at the Anglican Cemetery, Trout River on July 17, 2022 at 2 pm.
