Frederick Fred Wentworth Davis 19352022

Frederick “Fred” Wentworth Davis
1935-2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing
of Frederick (Fred) Davis at The Moncton Hospital on May 25, 2022.
Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret
(Tennant) Davis.
Fred had an esteemed career as a Chartered Accountant,
retiring as a Senior Partner in charge of the Taxation Department with
KPMG in Moncton. Early in his career, it was a move to Bathurst, NB
with Hudson McMackin where he met the love of his life and wife of 61
years, Jeanette (Arsenault). They returned to Moncton and then on to
Ottawa where Fred worked in a senior position with the CRA. Like many
Maritimers, the lure of the East Coast and family brought them back to
Moncton in 1975. Fred entered a partnership with Robert Steeves
(Steeves and Davis) prior to the merge with Peat
Marwick/KPMG.
Fred was a member of several Moncton business associations
including the Moncton City Club, Moncton Gyro Club and Moncton Probus
Club. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Moncton
Hospital.
Outside of the office, Fred’s passions took him to
Shediac Bay where his love of sailing began at the age of 14. Back
then, he was one of the few skippers that had the ability to navigate
by the stars on the Northumberland Strait. Fred loved his time spent
skippering his boat “Thialfi” and subsequently
crewing/racing on “Cymru” (Michael Prangnell). A sailing
highlight was participating in the Challenge Labatt Canada, which took
National sailing teams down the St. Lawrence, through the Gulf and
Northumberland Strait to end in Charlottetown.
This love of sailing has been passed on to his son
Peter.
It was also on Shediac Bay where Fred summered at his
favourite place, the family cottage at Cape Brule. He enjoyed time
here every summer of his life, as had his mother Margaret. We will all
cherish wonderful memories and stories of time spent at/on Shediac
Bay.
Following an early retirement, Fred also enjoyed salmon
fishing and golfing with his buddies. Winters were spent on
Florida’s Gulf coast and summers continued in
Shediac.
Fred will be fondly remembered as a kind, witty, and loving
man and will be deeply missed by his wife Jeanette, son Peter (Anne),
and daughter Lisa (Kevin). Fred was predeceased by an infant son,
Anthony Michael in addition to his parents, brother Stuart, and sister
Helen (Groom).
Respecting his wishes, cremation has taken place at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine
Road, Riverview (869-2007). A visitation will be held by the family on
Wednesday, June 1st from 6-8pm. A service
celebrating Fred’s life will take place at Cobb’s
Funeral home on Thursday, June 2nd at
1pm.
Masks are strongly encouraged for those in
attendance.
Donations to Friends of the Moncton Hospital or a charity of
the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the
family.
Fair winds and following seas, to our beloved husband and
dad.
