Frederick’s Obituary
After a long life of 100 years Frederick Charles “Unc” Hawker passed away at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, Sunday morning, December 11, 2022. Born in Springhill, September 20, 1922, to Fred and Pearl Murray) Hawker. Fred grew up in Springhill and when the Second World War started he joined the Army Dental Corp to make dentures for the troops heading overseas. He married his childhood sweetheart Mabel in 1946 and moved to New Glasgow where he continued to make dentures. After a short while he went to work with a fellow Springhiller, Colin Beaton of Beaton’s Dental Lab in New Glasgow where he worked with the Beaton family until his retirement, thereafter they moved back to Mabel’s home community of Port Howe. Fred was an active member of the New Glasgow Wisemen Club. Fred is survived by nieces, Anita McDermott, Marilyn Mitchell, nephews, Russell Hawker, William “Bill” Hawker and Charles Hawker; extended families of Cameron’s and Beaton’s. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Pearl Hawker, his wife, Mabel Viola (Cameron) Hawker, sister, Jean Pike, brother, William Russell Hawker. A graveside service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, December 12, 2022, at the Rockley Cemetery, Rockley. Donations in memory of Fred may be made to the Rockley Cemetery.
