Peacefully at the age of 95, Fred has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, December 2nd, 2022 at Hospice Simcoe. Beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Chappel, 2019) for 70 years. Loving father of John (Nancy), David (Kim) and Susan. Proud grandfather of Nicholas (Rebecca), the late Zachary (1990), Alex, Michelle (Trevor Pogue), Brittani, and Kaye (Alex Hollenberg). Predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Graham (Harry) and Edith Craig. Fred has been a father for 68 years, and grandfather for 38 years. Will be missed by many extended family members and friends.
Fred was a printer by trade, working at the Barrie Examiner for 50 years. He and his wife were the oldest original parishioners of Hi-Way Pentecostal Church. A collection of his poems, titled “Poems by Fred”, has been published. The past 3 years, Fred has thoroughly enjoyed living at the Allandale Station Retirement Residence.
Guests will be received at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley St., Barrie on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Thursday, December 8th, 2022 from 12 p.m. until the time of Service at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow inside the lower lounge. A private family interment will take place at the Barrie Union Cemetery in the future. Memorial donations in Fred’s memory may be made to World Vision.
