Obituary
Frederick “Fred” Habermann
Frederick “Fred” Habermann of Selkirk, MB passed away at 80 years old on December 20, 2022, at Selkirk Regional Health Centre after a battle with cancer.
Fred is survived by his wife Diane of 57 years, his boys Darren “Duke”, Derek (Patricia), grandchildren Matthew (Courtney), Cherokee, Jessie, and his great-grandson Karl, his one brother, two sisters and spouses. He was predeceased by his parents Karl and Eugenia Habermann.
Dad fought this disease and beat the timeline that the doctors gave him as he was determined to prove the doctors wrong and that he would live for another five years. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and he spent his final days in the Selkirk Regional Health Centre with his family by his side. Dad was born in Watrous, Saskatchewan and then spent his life in Selkirk, MB. He married Diane (nee Fey) on July 9,1965 and had two boys Darren “Duke” and Derek. Dad worked at the Manitoba Rolling Mills until his retirement at the age of 57. Dad loved to putter and took pride in everything that he did, and it had to be done “just so”. His yard was always beautifully manicured, his equipment maintained, and planted a huge garden to sustain the family through the winter months. Dad was hard working and dedicated to his family and always lent a hand to his neighbours/friends. Dad was strong on the outside and once you got to know him, he was a softy. He loved his family and was devoted to them. When he became an Opa this became more evident as he would be the first to push a swing, play with dolls, and take them for a tractor ride or do anything that would put a smile on their face.
Dad we will cherish all our days that we spent with you and know that you are at peace and will look out for us.
Huge gratitude to the care he received while in the hospital. He continued to try to make the nurses and staff laugh to make light of the intense situation. Thank you to everyone for their prayers, hugs, kind words, and hospital visits.
A family gathering will take place at a later date to celebrate dad.
