Frank Ettinger 1925 2022

Ettinger, Frank MacLeod – 97 of Halifax; It is with enormous sadness; daughters Janice & Angela announce the death of their father, Frank, on October 14th, 2022, at Melville Gardens, Halifax. Born in Georgefield NS on June 7th, 1925, he was the son of the late Donald and Georgina (Singer) Ettinger.
Dad lived life to the fullest & like the Sinatra song, “I did it my way”. Dad was very social & loved friendships & laughter with a lot of teasing added in. His personality was huge as you always knew he was in the room. Dad was blessed to have a job – school custodian & bus driver, that he truly loved. Dad & his long-time partner, Ruth Barter, enjoyed entertaining, playing cards, dancing, visiting friends & family & collecting various odds & ends – anything on sale big or small was worth buying. They loved spending their summers at their home in Melville, where they made so many dear friends. Dad was a passionate lawn keeper – mowing his & others’ lawns up until the last year of his life.
He will be loved & forever remembered by daughters, Janice (Brian), Angela (Jim), grandchildren, Karen (Kevin) & Devin, great grandchild, Taylor Rose. And the Barter family.
Besides his parents and siblings, Dad is predeceased by Ruth & grandson Roland.
We thank these special people for their caring & compassion: Dr Kepkay & all the staff at Melville Gardens.
Respecting Dad’s wishes there will be a private family burial held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Frank can be made to the MS Society – mssociety.ca or charity of choice.
Arrangements have been intrusted to the compassionate care of the J Wilson Allen Funeral Home HWY 215 Summerville, ph- 1-902-633-2431 or please visit our website at www.allenfh.ca to sign the guest book and send private condolences.

  1. Frank lived next door to our mother Betty in Melville Gardens. The day she arrived Frank and his roommate, Gerard, assured us that she was in good hands and they would keep an eye on her. We fondly referred to them as the mayor and his deputy of the 3rd floor 🙂 While we didn’t know him for very long, we are very sad to hear of his passing. We will miss seeing him daily, sharing a chat ,a smile and a laugh. We are forever grateful for crossing paths with him in his final days. What a wonderful man 🙂 Kathy, Carolyn and David Gallagher
