It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frank John Dempsey announces his passing from the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre Baie Verte, NL on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the age of 91 years.
Frank was born in Mudder’s Mash, Canada Harbour in a log cabin on January 13, 1931. He worked with his father fishing until the age of 35 when he resettled to Fleur de Lys with his home. He there met Josephine Lewis and they were married on August 20, 1966. Together they raised three beautiful children.
Over the years, Frank worked as a fisherman, miner and jack-of-all trades. But his passion was boat building. His boats can be found all over Newfoundland. His hands laboured with love right up until October, 2021. His last partially completed boat still sits in his shed.
Frank will be dearly missed and forever loved by his family and all who knew him.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories is his wife of 56 years, Josephine Dempsey; children, Kim Dempsey, Todd Dempsey (Kerry) and Jill Dempsey Kenny (Sean Kenny); grandchildren, Kip (Miranda), Melissa (Alex), Mehmet Ali, Shavonna (Jarod), Taylor (Jeremy), Trevor (Michelle), Andrew, Jonathan (Melissa), Bonnie (Will) and Nicki (Ben); great-grandchildren, Aiden, Elah, Amira, Sophia, Audrey, Emerson, Charlotte, Scarlett, Olivia, Remi Jo and Kansas; siblings, Kathleen Walsh, Pat Dempsey (Myrtle), Jerome Dempsey (Geraldine), Madeline Lewis and Frances Walsh; siblings-in-law, Kathleen Dempsey and Floss Dempsey; grandpuppies, Molly and Jax; special neighbours and friends, Harold & Lucy Tobin, Dominic Tobin and Conrad Lewis), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
Frank is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Winnifred Dempsey; infant brother, John; brothers, Ronald, Mike (Beth), Joe, Andy (Eileen) and Bern (Mary); infant sister, Bernadette; sister, Margaret (Eugene); parents-in-law, Josephine and Stephen John Lewis; step-father, John J. Paul; brothers-in-law, Fred Lewis, Doug Walsh and Joe Walsh; nieces, Bernadette Dempsey and Evangeline Walsh; nephews, Noel Lewis and Dougie Walsh.
Public visitation will take place from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Fleur de Lys, NL on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 7-9 pm.
Wake Service will take place on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 7 pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Fleur de Lys, NL on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 2 pm with Father Camillus Ekedobe officiating. Interment will follow at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Fleur de Lys, NL.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to Dorset Museum, General Delivery, Fleur de Lys, NL A0K 2M0.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.
