Frank J. MacIntyre
1950-2022
Peacefully and under special care at the Prince Edward Home,
the death occurred of Frank J. MacIntyre , formerly of Stratford, on
Saturday, December 17, 2022 , age 72 years.
He was a dear brother to Maureen Neary, Joan Connell and Fred
MacIntyre and a loving uncle to several nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank D. and Frances
(Morris) MacIntyre, his sister Jackie, brother Morris (Doddie) and his
brothers-in-law Blair Connell and Pat Neary.
Frank spent most of his adult life with the PEI Recreation
and Sports Association for the Physically Challenged as a recreation
consultant and coach. He worked hard for physically challenged
athletes to succeed in being the best they could be.
For a number of years Frank coached the PEI Ladies Goalball
Team in national and inter-provincial championships. In 1997 Frank was
named as Team Canada’s Women’s Goalball coach. In
2002 Frank successfully led Canada’s Womens Goalball Team to
a silver medal at the World Paralympic Championships in Brazil. This
silver medal standing at the World Champions in 2002 was followed by
Canada’s Womens Goalball team winning the goal medal at the
Paralympics in Athens Greece.
In 1999 Frank was honored to receive the prestigious Canadian
King Clancy Award for an outstanding contribution in assisting persons
with physical disabilities to achieve a more rewarding
lifestyle.
After suffering a stroke in 2009, Frank struggled to accept
his life challenge. During his life altering journey though, he
eventually lived, accepted and recognized life’s
joys.
Franks family would like to thank everyone at the Prince
Edward Home for the excellent and loving care they provided to him
over the years.
By request there will be no visiting hours. To honor Frank a
public funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 22nd from St.
Bonaventure Church, Tracadie Cross at 10:30 a.m. with interment to
follow in the parish cemetery.
