Francis (Frank) Petrie passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at home on Friday, December 31, at the age of 76.
Born in Chatham NB, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Hannah (Barry) Petrie. In his younger years, he worked for the New Brunswick Power Commission, which he left to open an independent bookstore, “The Valley Book Shoppe”. He later worked at the heating plant at CFB Chatham, before retiring from Service Canada. Frank was an active member of St. Michael’s Basilica, where he filled multiple roles. He was community minded and he served his community in many capacities including as a former member of the Kinsmen Club, and an active union member. He was a lover of sports, literature, and music. Frank was loved by many, and respected by all who knew him. He had a quiet demeanor, and a strong sense of duty and integrity. He set a fine example of how to be a husband, a father, and a friend.
Frank will be dearly missed by his loving wife Florence (McCallum) Petrie, daughter Jacqueline Petrie (Brian Matheson), son Jamie Petrie (Kari Gallant), and son Andrew Petrie (Amanda); grandchildren Billy Gallant, Marisa Trevors, Ellie Matheson, Emma Matheson, Jack Petrie, and Harrison Petrie; brother Jim Petrie (Ann Marie), and sister Cindy Keating (David); and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Maher’s Funeral Home on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00. A funeral will take place at St. Michael’s Basilica on Friday, January 7at 11:00.
