Francis Frank Donaher 2022

Francis Joseph Donaher (better known as Frank), of Miramichi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 84.
Frank was born in Nowlanville, New Brunswick on March 26, 1938. He was the eldest son of the late Stephen Thomas and Margaret Ellen (Wallace) Donaher.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Gertrude (Flynn) Donaher of Miramichi; daughter Lisa Roy (Darrin) of Miramichi; son Stephen Donaher (Deborah) of Moncton; two sisters, Mona Lordon (the late John) and Barbara Lynch (Donald) both of Miramichi; three brothers Joseph Donaher (Theresa) of Fredericton, Gerald Donaher (Marie) of Miramichi, and Harold Donaher (the late Arlene) of Miramichi; one sister-in-law Maureen of Oakville, Ontario; four grandchildren Emily Roy, Matthew Roy, Ava Donaher, and Alec Donaher; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Edward Donaher.
After graduating from Saint Thomas High School in 1956, Frank furthered his education by becoming a red seal electrician by trade. He worked for 42 years in the Pulp and Paper industry, retiring in 2000. Around the workplace he was known for his innovative thinking, work ethic and team mindset. His leadership style was fair and well-balanced, leading to him becoming a union executive member at one point in his career.
In his early years, Frank enjoyed spending time in nature at camps with family and friends. A hunting trip in October or a fishing trip in May were always welcome, leading to great memories and many laughs. Frank excelled in numerous sports such as basketball, baseball, and bowling. He had a competitive nature no matter what he played and passed on that spirit to his children (particularly his son). He was their greatest advocate and supporter, getting Stephen to rinks (sometimes in snowstorms) and baseball fields, and Lisa to university in Fredericton. His infinite wisdom and listening ear will be forever missed.
Retirement then opened another chapter. He and Gert enjoyed travelling through Europe for a few years, with a highlight trip back to his roots in Ireland. They also enjoyed trips to Ontario to visit family, and as the years progressed, shorter road trips around New Brunswick. Family played an intricate part in his life. He loved when his sisters and brothers would pop in for a say. He followed all his children’s and grandchildren’s milestones. He thoroughly loved having everyone gather around the dining room table to share a delicious meal and a quality bottle of wine. He was an entertaining storyteller (eh Mom!), and those stories will live on with all those who loved him dearly.
Frank was an avid reader, be it the newspaper, a biography, a book on history or space. He was intellectually curious and would love to share his new knowledge with his grandchildren! He enjoyed his time outdoors, taking a walk or relaxing on the back deck with the sounds of nature. He and Gert loved their time with one another and would tackle puzzles and mind teasers together. They would share in their success much like how they approached all things in life – united. He was also a man of deep faith and a practicing member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
At the family’s request, there will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 11 am, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Godwin officiating. The interment will take place in the church cemetery immediately after.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Restoration Fund, or to a charity of one’s choice.
