Mom grew up in Great Burin where at the age of 9 she and her family had to run for higher ground to escape the Tidal Wave of 1929. Like many young women of that era, she left home at an early age and headed to Toronto for work, where she made many friends and had wonderful experiences including a number of trips to Florida. After several years she returned to Burin to marry Dad moving to 32 Shaw Street in St. John’s which became the go to place for many Burin visitors. Mom was an lifetime member of the Wesley United Church Women where she made some wonderful friends. Family was her life and she was a wonderful cook, baker and homemaker. At age 55 when her family were raised she went to work at Agnes Pratt Home and became a valued member of the cooking staff. Mom Lived with Helen and family for 35 years until mobility issues required her to move to Glenbrook Lodge two years ago. Mom was very content living at Glenbrook where the staff were very caring and compassionate. We would like to thank each and every one of them for their kindness which will never be forgotten. A special thank you to the drivers of the GoBus, which allowed mom to come to dinner a couple of times a week and to attend many other functions including our weekly card game.
