Frances Mary Margaret Ehrler
May 21, 1939 – October 27, 2022
Frances Mary Margaret Ehrler (nee Doody) born May 21, 1939 and died October 27, 2022 at age 83 after a short battle with cancer. Frances was born to Frank Doody, a prospector, and Stella Doody in Val D’Or, Quebec. Frances attended St. Joseph’s, a boarding high school in Toronto where she met a number of international students. After school, Frances worked as a secretary and then at age 19, joined the Air Force. At basic training, she met Private Gerry Ehrler and had a whirlwind romance. They married on June 4, 1959. Their daughter, Stella, was born later that year and then their son, Frank, two and half years later. With Gerry in the Air Force, they moved to several air bases – Clinton, ON, Orillia, ON, Beaverlodge, AB, Foymont, ON, Chibougamau, QC, Falconbridge, ON and finally Alsask, SK. Frances always looked forward to the moves and found secretarial jobs at most postings – on base and off base. Winter carnival on the bases was something she enjoyed participating in and the many mess hall activities, including the card nights, bingos and always the New Year’s Eve balls. In Chibougamau, Frances had her own radio show and was awarded a pin for 100 hours of radio broadcasting. After retiring from the service in 1981, Frances and Gerry moved to Swan Hills, Alberta where she worked for several years at Fish and Wildlife. Frances loved working with the game wardens, and she knew all the trappers in the area. In 1993, they moved to Oliver, British Columbia where she and Gerry bought an orchard and built a house and later moved into town in 2001. Frances loved nothing better than a card game, especially Bridge. She was also never happier than when spending time in Las Vegas with friends and relatives. Frances is survived by her husband, Alfred Gerald Ehrler, her daughter, Stella Ehrler, her son, Frank Ehrler (Lloyd Hamilton), her granddaughters, Toni Anderson and Alix Sullivan (Cameron Sullivan) and her six great grandchildren, Katherine, Madeline, Emily, Seamus, Henry and Finn, and her brother, Mike Doody (Charlene Doody). Frances was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Stella Doody and her brothers, Jerry Doody (Pat Doody) and Paul Doody (Lise Desaulniers).
The family would like to thank the nurses at Oliver General Hospital Palliative Care, especially Erin and Desert Valley Hospice for their care and support during Frances’ time there. As well, the family is deeply thankful for the love and help by their angel friends, Betty Denneny and Edna Vance.
A Memorial Service will be held at Nunes – Pottinger Funeral Service & Crematorium, 5855 Hemlock Street, Oliver, BC on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 at 1 pm.
